Handwoven Overshot Rug (R31)
This heavy weight rug is woven using cotton rug warp, doubled, and rug wool for the pattern. The pattern is taken from an Early American overshot pattern that you might see in a coverlet in an antique shop. Overshot refers to the threads that are “shot over” some of the other threads in order to make the pattern. This is accomplished by the manner of threading of the loom that is taken from a graph. The colors are taupe and medium blue. As with all scatter rugs, a rug pad is recommended for safety. It measures 25 by 55 with a 2 and 1/2 inch fringe on each end. The fringe is hand knotted. To care for this special rug, wand vacuum for as long as possible and then, dry clean. I have always found it beneficial to explain to the dry cleaner that the rug is handwoven and then special care is given.
